Lead and Cadmium Heavy Metals Could be in Your Dark Chocolate Bar
After a 3-year 2018 study to determine the problem as mandated in 1986 by Prop 65 in California, a December 15, 2022 Consumer Report leaves the National Confectioners Association to Answer Questions
Many people love sweets as a coffee treat, ice cream, or a chocolate bar, the latter of which is commonly attached to a gift. For the past few years, I have reverted to making my own desserts, mostly cookies and cakes.
And when I make chocolate treats, I purchase the chocolate powder or the baking chocolate bar that can be added to a flour mixture or slowly melted over the stove, respectively.
Now it appears that I need to start making my own chocolate bars. And watch the brand of chocolate bars, as some passed the test more than others, according to a December 15, 2022 evaluation published in Consumer Reports.
Fact: There is no amount of lead or cadmium that is safe to eat. Let alone in your dark chocolate bar, which is supposed to be “heart healthy”.
