I love melatonin, a methoxyindole (N-acetyl-5-methoxytryptamine, because we can obtain it in the US over-the-counter. In other countries, it requires a prescription. In my Guidebook to Low Back Pain, I devoted an entire chapter to melatonin - not just for sleep, but for many antiaging and antioxidant effects that were natural when we worked outdoors, away from synthetic light bulbs lacking near infrared light provided by the sun.
